"Dreams really do come true! At least they did for me. After years of bad stuff in my life, I finally got my Dream Home! With the help of the Lord God and Don & Cyndi Shurts! Exactly in that order. I had lost my husband, my animals, my house, and a lot of other relatives in 2001. I had some health problems also. I had to live on a very small disability check in an apartment for several years. I met Don and Cyndi Shurts from a sign on a street corner. For Real! I was out for a Sunday drive, and something said, "Turn here." I did and never regretted it. They were pastors of a church right down the street from my new apartment. Anyhow, I got to know them, and as the years progressed, their church moved, the business grew, and I lost touch. I had been praying with everything in me for a place of my own. The stress of apartment living was really getting to me. I was on the internet each night looking at houses and praying for my own. One day in 2008, I decided to apply for a loan and was surprised to find that I had qualified. I had kept Don's business card and called him. He answered the phone. And as it happened, the office was across the street from where I lived! Don guided me every step of the way and always took my calls. Even in the evening, when I would get anxious and panic. He did not always answer immediately, but I always got a call back within a few hours. Don even explained the whole house-buying process to my mom and me while we were sitting in the office. He offered refreshments and gave me several pamphlets to read and study. He even recommended an excellent home inspector. Don was never pushy and was very helpful. He never made me feel less than important, even with my endless questions. The first time I went to their website, I saw this huge mansion and horses, etc. The American Dream, like that I could never afford (I wish someday). Don & Cyndi deal with houses that cost hundreds of thousands, and my house was under $50,000. But I always felt respected and appreciated! Several times Don came to my apartment and picked me up and took me all over the city looking at twelve houses one time, seven another, and at least ten another time. He would look at the listings, send me the list to review, and ask for feedback on which ones I'd like to see. It was truly an adventure, and we saw some firsts for both of us in house decor and construction. I did not get the first house I had my heart set on, or the second one. I was disappointed a few times before I found the right one, which had the right feel for me. Each time, Don was encouraging and upbeat, telling me not to give up just yet.
I want to thank Cyndi for allowing me to take up so much of Don's time. When I finally found the right house for me, Don was there to see it from a male perspective. Women look at cute, cozy things. Men look at the structure, roof, etc. It helped to have a fresh set of eyes. Don was experienced in real estate and had hands-on experience as a homeowner. Don knew the right questions to ask and negotiated the price so that I could afford it. He was even there for the house inspection, asked questions, and explained the results! He was even there at the closing! As a widow, it was comforting to know that Don was my guardian angel throughout the process of finding and buying my house. The night I got home, I found a nice welcome basket from Don and Cyndi, along with my first houseplant! It had lots of useful things I needed to start setting up the house with! It was such a thoughtful gesture! I even got a nice Christmas card and calendar! I would recommend these two people, Don & Cyndi Shurts, to anyone! You don't have to be rich to be treated like royalty! They treat everyone like family! My dream really did come true! Maybe someday my finances will allow me to have the huge house with the horses.
