Log cabins that housed residents were eventually replaced with stone buildings, which utilized the native limestone found in abundance in the area. Some of these buildings are still standing in the older part of downtown Centerville, called the Architectural Preservation District. In the early 1900’s, the US Postal Service changed the spelling to Centerville.
