Exciting Expansion: James Free Jewelers Grows in Kettering
Exciting news from our community: a beloved local business is expanding and bringing more opportunities to Kettering! James Free Jewelers, a Dayton-based jewelry store with deep roots in our area, is set to double it capacity, enhancing its offerings and creating new jobs.
Doubling in Size to Serve the Community Better
Located at 3100 Far Hills Ave. in Kettering, James Free Jewelers is expanding its current 15,000-square-foot store to a sprawling 30,000 square feet. This impressive expansion will utilize land that previously housed Hanson Audio & Video, a firm specializing in smart home technology that relocated in 2023. The new addition will span two stories and a basement, featuring an enlarged showroom to display the exquisite collections James Free Jewelers is known for.
Owner Michael Karaman is committed to preserving the store's signature architecture and style. "The whole showroom will be one seamless space," he said. "You won't even notice the difference when you walk in."
The catalyst for this expansion was Rolex, the prestigious Swiss watchmaker, adding to its inventory at the store. The influx of new Rolex pieces necessitated more space, prompting Karaman to embark on this exciting growth.
Beyond accommodating more products, Karaman's vision for expansion is also about giving back to the Dayton community that has supported James Free Jewelers since the 1940s. "Dayton has always been generous and kind to us," Karaman shared. "We want to continue giving back to our supporters and the community."
Construction on this ambitious project began in November 2023, with completion expected by June 2025. The work is being expertly handled by Greater Dayton Construction. Currently, the Far Hills location employs 33 staff members, and the expansion is set to create three additional jobs.

While the expansion costs remain undisclosed, county records reveal that the land at 3140 Far Hills Ave was purchased in June 2023 for $900,000. James Free Jewelers also operates a location in Cincinnati, employing a total of 69 workers between the two stores.
James Free Jewelers, founded in Dayton in the 1940s, proudly stands as Ohio's leading official Rolex jeweler. The store offers a range of luxury brands, including David Yurman, Roberto Coin, Mikimoto, and Messika. Whether you're in the market for wedding rings, diamonds, bracelets, necklaces, or earrings, James Free Jewelers is your go-to destination.
Their journey began on 5th Street in downtown Dayton, and they've called the Far Hills site home since the 1980s. Now, with this expansion, they continue to grow and serve our community.
