Updating Your Kitchen?  Consider These Two Countertop Options

If you are thinking about remodeling your kitchen there are many options to decide on. One that many people question is what type of countertops to use. 

Granite and Quartz are at the top of that list these days. Which one is better? That is for you to decide, but I will give you a little insight to help make your choice easier. 

When it comes to making a decision, choosing Granite is a little more difficult because it is a stone that is 100 percent natural so every piece is going to be a little different. Now with Quartz it is still a stone that is 95 percent natural but is 5 percent polymer resins, so each piece will be a little more similar. 

To keep that appearance long-lasting, Granite will have to be cleaned up quickly due to oils and acids that can stain or tarnish the look of the countertops. Quartz is a bit more heavy-duty because it is not as porous as granite, and will not have as many problems with certain foods or cleaners. The only worry with Quartz is high temperatures can change the color of the stone. So don’t keep those hot pans right on the counter, make sure you are using heating pads. 

Pricing, I know this is always big on someone’s mind while redesigning. Do not be worried, Quartz and Granite are do not have a large of a price difference as you may think. Quartz normally ranges from $80 -$140 per square foot. On the other hand, Granite ranges from about $80 - $175 per square foot. Now that does depend on how luxurious of a countertop you are trying to go with.
