Compared to other parts of the country the Dayton area provides very affordable housing, short travel times across the area, and a modest cost of living. Dayton is located in Montgomery County in southwestern Ohio. It is the county seat for Montgomery County and is also the largest city in the county. Major interstates I-70 and I-75 run through our city, making travel easy and convenient any direction that you need to go. Dayton International Airport is located north of town in Vandalia, about a 20 minute drive from downtown Dayton, just a short commute for business travelers. Dayton was founded in the late 1700’s by a small group who settled along the banks of the Great Miami River. Dayton was named for a captain in the Revolutionary War by the name of Jonathan Dayton. The Miami and Erie Canal was built in the 1830’s and helped to connect Lake Erie to the Miami River and was the main route of travel in the part of Ohio during the early to mid 1800’s. Dayton was the first large city in the United States to adopt a council-manager form of government, back in 1913. In this form of city government, the mayor has one vote just like the rest of the commissioners that sit on the city council and the council chooses a city manager, who is the administrative authority over the city government. Dayton is also known as the birthplace of aviation. Native Daytonians, Orville and Wilbur Wright built the first machine capable of sustained flight here and launched it in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Our aviation heritage is very evident throughout the city; take a tour of the Dayton Aviation Heritage Park and the Wright Cycle Company Building, which pay tribute to the Wrights’ achievements. Many other inventors and entrepreneurs came out of Dayton, Ohio, such as John Patterson, founder of NCR, and inventor Charles Kettering. Other famous natives of Dayton, Ohio, include Paul Lawrence Dunbar, Erma Bombeck, and actors Martin Sheen and Allison Janney.

Time to Move >Qualified Movers
Whether you are moving across town or across the country, it is a good idea to shop around for a household mover. Local moving companies have always been very competitive. When interstate movers were more regulated by the Interstate Commerce Commission, they charged basically the same rates. Since that industry has been de-regulated, the rates are varied and even negotiable.
If you are in the market for a mover, get recommendations from friends or neighbors. Call several companies for estimates and ask how their rates are calculated. Find out what kind of insurance against damage or breakage is included in their charges and what additional coverage will cost. The charges are usually broken down into two areas--packing, and loading and unloading. You can sometimes save a considerable amount of money by doing your own packing, but doing so may limit the mover's liability.
